Foundation for the Children in Haiti
Gladys Thomas was born in Haiti and trained as a nurse in the US. She was determined to return to Haiti to help children that nobody else wanted or loved. In 1982 Gladys was presented with an opportunity to revive an abandoned orphanage. She scrubbed the house clean and tossed out bug infested beds. Then she went to the city’s hospital where disabled children were often abandoned by parents that were too poor to care for them.
More than three decades later Gladys has created a dynamic village which includes the original orphanage now serving 24 disabled children, a second orphanage for 82 abandoned children, and a primary school serving more than 132 children.
Prayer Requests
“We are going through some tough times in Haiti with violence and unrest at their highest point. No one is safe in the country and there is a lot of heartache as we watch the suffering of the population. The international community is thinking of a military intervention in Haiti, but they have been holding back for almost 2 years now, and in the meantime, Haiti is spiraling down. We are praying and praying, as I know, God has a plan for Haiti.”
