Good News: The Lord is Near

Passage: Mark 1:1-8

Mark's Gospel thus begins with the announcement that God's advent is about to occur. John the Baptist is the advance man in the operation, offering a baptism of repentance, washing people up so they will be ready. Baptism occurs in the Jordan River, the boundary marker in the Old Testament for the Promised Land.
