Obsessed with God
Psalm 111 is about God and not about us. It’s a poem, a hymn, of theology rather than anthropology. The psalm begins with “Hallelujah,” and then follows with a celebration of God’s identity and God’s actions, God’s promises and God’s nature. Psalm 111 is focused entirely, obsessed completely, with God. It is as if, in this psalm, the psalmist says, “You have spent the whole week self-concerned, obsessed with your problems, strategies, and plans. Now, for just a brief time, let’s all get together and refocus ourselves upon something larger than ourselves. Let’s talk about God.”
