Pursuit of Happiness
What is happiness? In today’s world, happiness is consumer-driven and circumstantial. The accumulation of “stuff largely determines it.” The car we drive, the house we live in, the clothes we wear, etc. Happiness is also based on our circumstances. Our happiness is based on our happenings. It is highly unlikely that this is the type of happiness the psalmist had in mind. Happiness in the Psalmist’s day would have been defined by being in the presence of God. Happiness, then, is about driving your roots deep into the gospel.
